Sept. 5 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts police officer was driving through an East Bridgewater neighborhood when he came across an unusual scene: a woman on horseback chasing after a loose cow.

The East Bridgewater Police Department said Officer Robert Lang came across the surprising spectacle in the area of Belmont and Summer streets at about 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman, determined to be the cow's owner, had called police moments earlier, and more officers soon arrived to assist with the chase.

"There were minor disruptions to traffic during the incident when the cow got near the road at Belmont and Summer streets," police wrote in a news release. "There was also minor damage caused to some lawns in the area."

The roughly 2 1/2-hour chase ended when officers were able to use a lasso and some food to ensnare the bovine, named Boots, and load it into a trailer.

"I am happy to report that our officers were able to help safely capture the cow without injury to themselves or the animal," Chief Michael Jenkins said.
