    Carolina Panthers bench quarterback Bryce Young for veteran Andy Dalton

    Sept. 16 (UPI) -- The Carolina Panthers will send Bryce Young to the bench and start veteran quarterback Andy Dalton in Week 3, a league source told UPI on Monday.

    Young, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, completed 31 of 56 (55.4%) of his throws for 245 yards and three interceptions through his first two games this season. He completed 18 of 26 throws for 84 yards and an interception in the Panthers' 26-3 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday in Charlotte, N.C.

    Young completed 59.8% of his throws for 2,877 yards, 11 scores and 10 interceptions over 16 starts as a rookie. He went 2-14 as a starter.

    The Panthers traded away the No. 9 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, a second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and wide receiver D.J. Moore to the Chicago Bears in 2023 to move up to the No. 1 overall selection so they could take Young.

    Young is signed through 2026. His contract includes a fifth-year team option for 2027. The Panthers signed Dalton to a two-year, $10 million contract in 2023.

    Dalton completed 34 of 58 (58.6%) of his throws for 361 yards and two scores over three appearances last season for the Panthers. He completed 66.7% of his throws for 2,871 yards, 18 scores and nine interceptions over 14 starts in 2022 for the New Orleans Saints .

    Dalton, 36, has an 83-78-2 career record as a starter. He totaled 38,511 yards, 246 scores and 144 interceptions over his first 170 career appearances. The three-time Pro Bowl selection also spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals , Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears.

    Dalton and the Panthers (0-2) will face the Las Vegas Raiders (1-1) at 4:05 p.m. EDT Sunday in Las Vegas.

    he’s not an NFL quarterback at all. can’t be used at the position by any team in NFL. just a reality
