Roanoke resident Nicholas Foxx told Virginia Lottery officials he was visiting family in Altavista when he decided to stop at the A1 Mini Mart on Main Street to buy an energy drink.

Foxx ended up buying some scratch-off lottery tickets and one of the games, 20X the Money, turned out to be a $1 million top prize winner.

"I thought I was reading it wrong," Foxx recalled. "You don't know anyone who's hit the lottery for that amount of money!"

Foxx decided to accept his prize as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $625,000 before taxes.

He did not reveal whether he has any plans for his winnings.

Mr Foxx,Take it from me, get yourself the best JD who is ALSO a CPA b/c you'll pass out when you learn what you'll be paying in Fed AND State taxes..I got a 52,000. lump sum payment about 7 yrs ago, no taxes taken out. I sold a few measley stock shares to pay of med expenses. Guess what? My SSA was then taxed, i paid Cap gains taxes which put me in higher tax bracket and I stupid sums of $ to Feds and the taxes paid to State wasn't a lot less than what I pd out to Feds.I hope you can do something fun with your windfall! I'm so happy for you. BTW, I was raised in Rke., graduated from Northside HS many moons ago.. LOL.
