The Animal Rescue League of Boston said rescuers responded to the Woodland Golf Club in Newton on Thursday after a hawk was seen caught in the netting set up around the course to catch errant golf balls.

Anna Yorks went up in a ladder truck provided by local firefighters to attempt to disentangle the bird of prey.

"Unfortunately, he was so tangled in there that I was unable to do so. Luckily, we had scissors, so unfortunately we had to cut a small hole in the net, but it did relieve him from there, so I was able to get him off of the net and then put him inside of a safe carrier box," Yorks told WHDH-TV.

The hawk was believed to have been caught in the net for about 12 hours.

The raptor was examined by a veterinarian and given a clean bill of health, allowing it to be released back into the wild Thursday afternoon.
