4 dead in crash after high-speed pursuit ends in Upland 01:31

Four people were killed after a high-speed pursuit with a DUI suspect ended in a violent crash in Upland early Friday morning.

The crash happened just before 2 a.m. at North Mountain Avenue and West 16th Street, according to the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department.

Authorities said the pursuit began after a deputy in Rancho Cucamonga attempted to make a traffic stop on a suspected DUI driver when the car took off. The pursuit continued into Upland until the suspect's car collided with a white Mustang in an intersection.

Both San Bernardino and Rancho Cucamonga deputies were involved in the pursuit along with Ontario Police Department's aviation unit.

Investigators said the suspect's vehicle got split into three different when it crashed into a pole after it collided with the Mustang.

Five people were inside the suspect's vehicle when it crashed and four were pronounced dead at the scene. The ages and identities have not been released yet.

"A fifth juvenile occupant was ejected at some point during the crash and was transported to the hospital for their injuries," said the San Bernardino Police Department's PIO.

The two people in the white Mustang were also taken to the hospital.

During the investigation, police discovered that the suspect's vehicle was stolen out of Fontana and a loaded fire arm was found inside the car.

The intersection and surrounding area was closed while crews investigated the scene.
