Meet Jake Tarlov, The TikToker With a Contagious Aura
Musician, budding sex-symbol and TikToker Jake Tarlov can’t stop going viral for spreading his aura. His videos, which have amassed millions of views, show Tarlov very simply vibing: headphones in, turning corners downtown to a soundtrack of early-aughts hits, from Weezer to Fall Out Boy to Good Charlotte. You either get it or you don’t. Some fans and followers allege that his vibe is contagious, an energy that can be felt from blocks away. Accordingly, we wanted to get as close to Tarlov as possible. So, after he came through the Interview office to give us a hand with some clerical work, we slid into his DM’s to talk about the recent death of Grimace, his disturbingly sauce-heavy Taco Bell order, and how it feels to have the chillest vibe in Lower Manhattan.
Con Edison invites applications from local organizations
Con Edison invites applications for its 2024 grant cycle, which supports organizations in its service territory of New York City and Westchester. Con Edison will consider funding requests for specific programs and projects within the areas of interest, which include climate change and environmental stewardship, clean energy and technology careers, or social justice. Programs must have a strong leadership team that is highly engaged with the communities served and demonstrates a high level of community input into the project/program. Priority will be given to organizations with programs/projects centered in historically marginalized and disadvantaged communities.
New bill would require NYC landlords to provide air conditioning during the summer
After multiple heat waves this summer, a Brooklyn elected official has proposed legislation mandating landlords provide air conditioning to tenants. Last week City Council Member Lincoln Restler introduced a bill to update the existing housing code and require landlords to provide tenants with air conditioning in the warmer months, just as they are required to provide adequate heat during the winter. If the legislation is enacted, property owners would have four years to comply with the rule or face up to $1,250 in fines per day for noncompliance.

NYPD: Loaded guns, ammo found in car during routine traffic stop on Staten Island
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Brooklyn man is facing multiple charges after a routine traffic stop on Staten Island found him in possession of two loaded firearms, police said. Rogers Ritson, 36, of the 1100 block of Glenmore Avenue in Brooklyn, has been charged with several felonies, including two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, for having a loaded firearm and explosive bullets, police said. He’s also facing unregistered vehicle and unsafe turn/failure-to-signal violations.
