Know Your Right to Special-Needs Child School Placement
Recently, on Rockaway Beach Autism Families Facebook page, a parent expressed frustration about her child’s NYC Department of Education (DOE) District 75 school proposed Fall 2024 kindergarten placement. Prior to receiving an email about potential placements in either Bellerose or Bayside, Queens, the parent visited numerous schools in Rockaway and was told that no schools here had room. Her anguish took me back to eight years ago—Wednesday, June 21, 2016—when it took three hours for my daughter to be bussed home from her District 75 school in Bellerose. Prior to her placement in Bellerose, I too visited many schools up and down the peninsula, inquiring if any in Rockaway had room. I was bluntly told, “none.” One particular rude rejection stands out from an administrator I visited at a school, which I won’t name.
Who Will Play Center For The Knicks?
After the first wave of free agency and the draft, the New York Knicks lost the most coveted center on the market, Isaiah Hartenstein. Leaving them scraping the barrel as to how to replace him. Hamstrung by being in the luxury tax, having no cap space, plus staying within the second apron; the Knicks have limited money to offer. Extending OG Anunoby to a massive deal worth $213 million, plus trading for Mikal Bridges from the Nets in a sensational but costly, trade with Brooklyn. They’re gearing up for a run at the Boston Celtics for the NBA title, the only question remains who plays center for the Knicks? It’s slim pickings in free agency and the trade options are limited as most of their tradeable assets were used for the Bridges trade.
Yankees 4, Reds 5: Judge and Elly shine, Gil falls apart
On Tuesday night, YES Network announcer Michael Kay mentioned that the Yankees had allowed almost six runs per game in the month of June. We can complain about the state of the lineup but facts are facts: if you give up that much every day, there’s not a lot your hitters can do. Tonight was a night like that — Luis Gil was bad, Caleb Ferguson didn’t help, and a comeback fell just short as the Yankees dropped their series opener to the Reds, 5-4. It’s their 11th loss in their last 15 games, a decidedly ugly stretch of baseball.
Brandon Sproat named to Futures Game
Brandon Sproat is the Mets’ sole representative at the 2024 Futures Game, to be held on July 13th as part of the All-Star Game festivities. Sproat, named the 14th best prospect in the Amazin’ Avenue pre-season list, was drafted, and not signed, by the Rangers in 2019 and the Mets in 2022, before eventually signing in 2023 after being taken in the second round.
Grading a 3-team trade involving both Luis Robert Jr. and Garrett Crochet
The New York Yankees are tied for first place in the AL East despite a troubling slide over the last couple weeks. There are real needs for Brian Cashman and the front office to address ahead of the July 30 trade deadline, but at the same time, New York is undoubtedly on the shortlist of viable MLB contenders.
Jose Iglesias delivers again as Mets beat Nationals in extras for second straight game
WASHINGTON — OMG about sums up Jose Iglesias’ at-bats in extra innings the last two nights. The veteran infielder has turned into Mr. Clutch for the Mets and provided a spark that his counterpart at second base, Jeff McNeil, has largely lacked. It was Iglesias’ RBI double in...
Frankie Montas back in The Bronx with Reds after Yankees letdown
The Yankees will get a look Thursday at something they didn’t see much of the previous two seasons: a healthy Frankie Montas pitching in The Bronx. Montas, now with the Reds, will start at Yankee Stadium on Thursday after a rough season-and-a-half with the Yankees. “A lot of people...
Devils poke fun at rivals in schedule release video
The Devils went to hilarious lengths to announce the dates for some of their biggest games this season in a video that featured Dougie Hamilton showcasing his humor with a guest appearance by Curtis Lazar. In the video the Devils defenseman is in a classroom setting and goes by the...
Cam Johnson could be next trade piece for rebuilding Nets
Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson arrived in Brooklyn together, so-called Twins because they’d been so close in Phoenix. Now that Bridges was traded away last week, will Johnson be next?. “Obviously we failed in our mission this year — point-blank, period, no way around that,” Johnson said after the...
Struggling Yankees start July on sour note with loss to Reds
Facing Cincinnati closer Alexis Diaz in the ninth, the Yankees’ best hope, as it often does, was waiting for Aaron Judge to get to the plate. Unfortunately for the Yankees, they needed two batters to reach base to get to Judge — who is making up most of their offense these days.
Struggling Yankees lose to Reds, as Luis Gil's slide from dominance continues
NEW YORK – Into June, Luis Gil was more than a placeholder for the injured Gerrit Cole. Gil essentially became Cole, last year’s unanimous AL Cy Young Award winner, by posting an 8-1 record with a 1.82 ERA over his first 12 starts. Gil’s last five starts haven’t...
Mets explode in 10th vs. Nats for second straight night
Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer to cap a five-run 10th inning Tuesday night for the resurgent New York Mets, who beat the host Washington Nationals 7-2 in the second game of a four-game series. The Mets, who scored six runs in the 10th inning Monday night before hanging on...
