Ex-Philly officer Edsual Mendoza gets at least 8 years in killing of 12-year-old Thomas ‘T.J.’ Sidiero
A fired Philadelphia police officer who pleaded guilty to murder in the shooting of a fleeing 12-year-old boy was sentenced Monday to at least eight years in prison. Edsaul Mendoza, a five-year veteran of the force who was fired a week after the shooting in 2022, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in April in the shooting of Thomas “T.J.” Siderio.

Three people were killed and six others were injured in a shooting that occurred early Sunday during a party in Philadelphia, multiple local media outlets reported. More than 100 people were attending a cookout in the Carroll Park neighborhood in West Philadelphia when the shooting erupted around 2 a.m. due an argument, authorities told local media including the Philadelphia Inquirer and MPVI. Officers arrived at the scene to find multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds.
