This Week in Cruise: New Homeport for NCL, Sun Princess Issues
In major news this past week, Norwegian Cruise Line announced that Norwegian Jewel will sail from the Port of Philadelphia in 2026. No other major cruise line currently home ports at Philadelphia, and it's expected that this port will attract many drive market guests from the Middle Atlantic states. From April 16, 2026, to October 17, 2026, the ship will sail seven- to nine-day cruises to Bermuda from Philadelphia’s SouthPort Marine Terminal Complex.
Phillies rookie sees an unbelievable streak come to an end
Philadelphia Phillies fans still remember the night of Sept. 25, 2023. That was the evening that ascendant rookie Orion Kerkering made his MLB debut against the New York Mets in the eighth inning in front of a packed Citizens Bank Park crowd. Following an inning of work that saw Kerkering record his first two MLB strikeouts, the TV cameras panned into the crowd, where Kerkering's father had tears of joy streaming down his face after watching his son's debut. Recent STEM grad Sophia Fontecchio created her nonprofit in 2021. Sophia Fontecchio of Downingtown recently received the third annual Youth Scholarship, presented by the Chester County Suicide Prevention Task Force. The $1,000 scholarship is open to high school seniors in Chester County who contributed to school and community activities to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention.
