Brother’s Backyard Barbeque has closed after just under 18 months in business. The Silver City barbecue spot shared the news on social media Tuesday. “It is with mixed emotions that we announce the closure of Brother’s Backyard BBQ,” the post said. “We have been fortunate to serve you delicious meals and create memories over the years. We want to thank each and every one of you for your loyalty and support. Until then, thank you for your understanding and continued patronage.”

Parks Finds Support for Tosa Road-To-Trail Project
Milwaukee County Parks is moving to replace a section of the Underwood Creek Parkway with a mixed-use trail. The Underwood Creek Parkway runs around the northern edge of the Milwaukee County Grounds between Mayfair Road and the Menomonee River, going past Hansen Park Golf Course, the UW-Extension Gardens, the county’s Wil-O-Way Facility and Wisconsin Lutheran College athletic facilities. Parks is looking at converting a portion of the roadway, between the entrance to the college’s baseball diamond and the entrance to the gardens, to a mixed-use trail. The conversion parks has in mind would be partial, and would not cut off automobile access to any of the destinations in the area.

Council President Jose Perez Reelected
José G. Pérez will serve a second term as Milwaukee Common Council President. On a 10-5 vote, the incumbent was given his first full term as the head of the city’s legislative body. Pérez, the first Latino to hold the council presidency, was first elected to the council in 2012 and as council president in 2022 after former council president Cavalier Johnson became mayor.

First Majority-Women Milwaukee County Board in History Sworn In
For the first time in county history, a majority of supervisors on the Milwaukee County Board are women. On Monday, returning supervisors on the 18-member board were sworn in alongside four new colleagues following the April 2 election: Justin Bielinski, Sky Capriolo, Jack Eckblad and Anne O’Connor. With Capriolo’s election to District 15, replacing former supervisor Peter Burgelis, 10 members of the board are women.
New Council Most Diverse In Milwaukee History
The Milwaukee Common Council will formally kick off its 2024-2028 term on Tuesday. And when it does, it will be a record-breaking group. For the first time in city history, the majority of the Common Council members are African American. Eight of the 15 members are Black, eclipsing the high of seven.
