Habitat Begins Construction Season With Big Goals
Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity kicked off construction season Tuesday with an ambitious plan to double the number of homes it builds every year. The nonprofit began the 2024 season with a ceremonial wall raising in the Harambee neighborhood. MCTS Announces Summer Bus Service Changes
The Milwaukee County Transit System is making a number of changes across the route network beginning June 2. Notably, the Connect 1, the county’s first bus rapid transit service, will begin running all the way to the lakefront. The service runs east and west for nine miles between downtown Milwaukee and Wauwatosa. Connect 1 buses will make their final easterly stops in the transit concourse at the base of The Couture, a new and much-awaited residential high-rise at 909 E. Michigan St.
Special Elections for State Senate, US House Are Complicated
Gov. Tony Evers has called a two special elections to fill vacant U.S. House and state Senate seats this year, but each comes with a twist. The election for the 4th Senate District would be the first one held under a new legislative redistricting plan signed by Evers, and voters in the 8th Congressional District could see the same set of candidates appear twice on their ballot on Election Day. The state Senate election will replace longtime Democratic state Sen. Lena Taylor, who resigned after the governor appointed her to the Milwaukee County Circuit Court in late January.
