CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — With a rare, double emergence of cicada broods in the past, researchers are looking at the damage done to fruits.

Karuna Kafle, a researcher within the University of Illinois Department of Crop Sciences, is requesting that fruit growers report any sustained damage done to trees, bushes or vines. The most obvious damage would be slits on small branches.

These slits can be minor to severe, and they could weaken a branch to the point that it would snap off in the wind.

Anyone who has any level of damage to their fruit plants are asked to send their name, location and contact information to Kafle via email . Her lab will then follow up to arrange a visit to assess the damage.
