URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — In Central Illinois, July 15 marked the hottest day of the year so far — but that’s not all. With wind speeds estimated up to 80 miles per hour, some communities experienced startling damage.

Brian Hamilton lives in Urbana. He said he’s grateful the damage wasn’t worse, but now he’s concerned for the next round of severe weather.

“Now I have to figure out how I’m going to get that moved, how I’m going to get that cut up, where can I take it because I don’t have a truck,” Hamilton said.

The Williams family is still figuring out what to do after a big tree fell onto their home.

“We called the emergency number at 6 a.m. They told us to wait and call normal business hours. And so we were patient and was like, okay, let’s just be patient,” Tawanna Williams said. “And we called normal business hours, and now they can’t tell us anything.”

She said they’ve been without power ever since the storms rolled through.

“They need to do something. They need to help my mom,” Williams said. “I’m sorry, but I don’t like this.”

City officials said Urbana Public Works will likely be working to clear up damage and debris for the rest of the week. They focused on anything blocking public areas last night, and worked to clear roadways and prioritize hazard spots today.
