URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — A 22-year-old from Urbana is under arrest on gun and drug charges after a traffic stop resulted in police finding a loaded gun and over 10 times the legal amount of marijuana one can possess.
Man was under the influence during deadly Edgar Co. crash Officials from the Urbana Police Department posted on the department Facebook page that the traffic stop happened in the area of Washington Street and Lierman Avenue on Tuesday. The traffic stop was initially for license plate suspensions, but while interacting with the driver, the officer established probable cause to search the car.
That search turned up the gun, 340 grams of marijuana and several hundred dollars. The maximum legal amount of marijuana one can possess in Ilinois is 30 grams.
The man was arrested and booked into the Champaign County Jail on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and manufacture/delivery of marijuana.
