Oklahoma State Head Coach Mike Gundy’s Eye is ‘Full of Blood’ After Cattle Headbutt

Oklahoma State football head coach Mike Gundy is showing the gnarly signs of a shocking cattle attack on his ranch over the weekend.

Gundy, 57, revealed he was on the receiving end of the bovine assault during his media availability via Zoom on Monday, October 14, in which Gundy had his camera turned off.

"Well, I had a little run-in with my cattle over the weekend," Gundy told reporters. "I guess they've been watching us play and I got headbutted. So I've got a bad eye that I didn't think would be particularly enjoyable for people when they were looking at my pretty face in a live interview.”

Gundy continued, “More importantly, it's full of blood, and I get dizzy. So it's not easy to be upright and be in a normal function. But other than that, I'm doing great."

Oklahoma State entered their bye week on a three game losing streak, dropping games to Utah, Kansas State and West Virginia. They return to action on Friday, October 18 against 13th-ranked BYU. Gundy is expected to be on the sidelines.

"It should get better every day," the coach said of his ocular injury. "Hopefully it'll get a little better. But I'm fine. I'm working the same hours. I mean, it's no big deal. I just didn't think it was very appealing."

Gundy, currently in his 20th season as head coach at Oklahoma State, has a 110-acre ranch outside of Stillwater, where the university is located. In April, Gundy listed the home for $8 million , though it’s unclear if the property is still on the market.

With his three sons — Gunnar , Gavin and Gage — out of the house, Gundy explained the home simply became too expansive for him and his wife Kristen Gundy .

"It's just a lot for two people," Gundy told reporters. "I mean, we moved out there I think about 13 years ago, so the boys would have been 14, 8, and Gage would've been like 5 or 6. Times have changed since then.”

He continued, "It needs to be for a young family that needs a lot of space to just goof around, have a swimming pool and all that stuff."

In 2017, the Austin American-Statesman reported Gundy owned five longhorns, which he was in the process of breeding. All five were named after alcoholic beverages, including Whiskey and Brandy.

Gundy said they named the cattle after booze because his antics drive his wife “to drink.”

The expansive property has also been home to peacocks, miniature horses and chickens.
