Hill and her hip-hop group Fugees, who were set to kick off a new leg of The Miseducation Anniversary Tour beginning this month, have abruptly canceled their U.S. tour dates.
"Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows," Hill wrote. "Regrettably, some media outlets' penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour.
"The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal."
Ticket refunds will be issued automatically to concertgoers "as soon as funds are received from the event organizer," according to the Live Nation website.
The 30-date tour was set to begin Friday with a show in Tampa, Florida, and wrap in Hamburg, Germany, on Nov. 1. The European and U.K. portions of the tour will continue as scheduled, Hill said.
"Performing for my fans is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time," Hill said. "Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am."
Hill concluded: "For our fans in North America, when these unforeseen circumstances are resolved, we’ll be back in full force…"
The fall edition of The Miseducation Anniversary Tour serves as an extension of the 25th-anniversary tour Hill and the Fugees embarked on last year to celebrate Hill's highly-acclaimed debut album " The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill ."
Lauryn Hill, Fugees blindside fans with tour cancellation
Disappointed fans quickly took to social media to lament the North American tour's cancellation.
"It's so disheartening being a fan of Lauryn Hill," @PLoJetson wrote on X. "Last October, a(n) hour before the show in Dallas, it was cancelled with no warning. I tried again this run even when EVERYONE clowned me saying I was foolish for trying. Cancelled AGAIN. I love Lauryn man. But damn yo. DO BETTER."
"Bought Lauryn Hill tickets and about 15 minutes later, she cancelled her tour," X user @discophobe wrote. "God is pointing and laughing at me."
"I cannot make this (stuff) up," @lucydivittorio wrote on X. "Every time I buy Lauryn Hill tickets, she cancels."
