After winning the men's 100 meters in a photo finish and taking bronze in the 200 meters , U.S. sprinter Noah Lyles will not continue his medal run in the 2024 Paris Olympics .

The two-time medalist was previously part of the men's 4x100-meter relay team pool in the final day of track and field action. He was on the U.S.'s gold medal-winning team in the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. Team USA is widely expected to medal again in the event in Paris.

Lyles said he tested positive for COVID-19 early Tuesday morning before he raced his marquee event - the 200 meters - Thursday night in Paris.

"It definitely affected my performance," Lyles said to reporters after the 200-meter final. He added that he's "more proud of myself than anything, coming out and getting a bronze medal with COVID."

Lyles later posted on Instagram Thursday, saying in part "I believe this will be the end of my 2024 Olympics" in the caption. This means he'll be out of today's events.

Here's what to know about Lyles' events today after his positive test.

    Is Noah Lyles competing today?

Lyles had previously not committed to officially ending his run in Paris and was fine letting Team USA "do its thing" but his Instagram post changed that outlook.

The U.S. men's 4x100-meter relay team easily made it through the first round yesterday to secure a spot in the medal round today. Lyles was not part of that relay team; Fred Kerley, Christian Coleman, Kyree King, and Courtney Lindsey posted the fastest time in the first round by half a second. Team USA has not provided an update yet on whether that team will remain unchanged for the medal round.

It's one of many medal events for track and field today. Team USA will be in action for the medal rounds in the following events:

    • Women's 4x100-meter relay
    • Women's shot put
    • Women's 400 meters
    • Men's triple jump
    • Heptathlon 800 meters
    • Women's 10,000 meters
