The vice presidential debate is set as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Ohio Sen. JD Vance gear up to take the stage after both accepted an invitation from CBS News.

The outlet said this week that it invited both candidates to debate in New York on Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Oct. 1 and Oct. 8. Kamala Harris' running mate confirmed on X Wednesday that he agreed to debate Donald Trump's, writing "See you on October 1, JD."

In a Fox News appearance the same day, Vance said that he probably would debate Walz on that date but that he first needed to consider the proposed moderators and rules surrounding the showdown. Vance confirmed Thursday on X that he accepted the Oct. 1 and Sept. 18 invitations.

"The American people deserve as many debates as possible, which is why President Trump has challenged Kamala to three of them already," Vance wrote in reply to Walz . "I look forward to seeing you at both!"

Harris and Trump have accepted an invitation from ABC News for a Sept. 10 debate. The Trump campaign proposed two additional debates as well.

As of Thursday morning, Walz had yet to publicly agree to a Sept. 18 debate. USA TODAY has reached out to the Harris campaign for additional information.

CBS News said evening news anchor Norah O'Donnell and "Face the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan will moderate the Oct. 1 debate.
