Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago Monday night to emphasize why Vice President Kamala Harris should be elected as America's next president.

He said unlike former president Donald Trump , Harris can move beyond anger, extremism and division to lead the nation through her values of compassion and empathy.

Beshear said Trump's actions have led to strict abortions bans even in his own state including in cases of rape, incest and non-viable pregnancies. He criticized Trump for bragging about tearing constitutional rights or U.S. women and girls and said "that's why we must tear away any chance he could ever be president ever again."

Emphasizing hope, Beshear expressed confidence in a Harris victory referencing his own ability to defeat former Attorney General of Kentucky Daniel Cameron in the 2023 gubernatorial race.

"I beat Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell's hand picked candidate by more than five percentage points. This November. We're going to beat them," he said. "And we're going to win by staying true to our values of compassion, empathy and doing right by our neighbors."

"It was an honor to be considered in this process, but @Tim_Walz is a great friend and a great choice. I fully support this new ticket and will work to elect @KamalaHarris as our next President of the United States," BeShear wrote on X.

Beshear has continued to campaign for Harris, even in visits to Iowa and Georgia last month where he encouraged Democrats to show up for Harris.
