    Maryland Gov. Wes Moore in DNC speech recalls Harris' support in Baltimore bridge collapse

    Maryland Gov. Wes Moore took the stage on the third night of the Democratic National Convention to assure voters that Vice President Kamala Harris is an excellent leader amidst a crisis.

    During his speech, Moore recalled when a massive container ship that slammed into the Francis Key Scott Bridge in Baltimore on March 26 . The incident led to the bridge collapsing and killing six workers who were patching potholes.

    Moore detailed the phone call he had with Harris that day who assured him that "we are here with you every step of the way."

    "While many said it could take 11 months to reopen the Port of Baltimore, we got it done in 11 weeks," Moore told the Chicago crowd. "You never learn anything about anybody when times are easy. You learn everything you need to know about somebody when times are hard and when the temperature gets turned up. And America, I saw that Kamala Harris is the right one to lead in this moment firsthand."

    The Democratic National Committee convention is in Chicago through Thursday and Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday is scheduled to formally accept the party's nomination for the 2024 Election.

    • Who he is: Wes Moore is the governor of Maryland. He was first elected in 2022, becoming Maryland's first Black governor, as well as the third African American governor of any state.
    • What role he plays: A U.S. Army veteran himself, Moore is poised to appeal to certain groups who haven’t been engaged with Democrats, including veterans, Black men, and younger voters.

    When and where is the DNC

    The Democratic National Convention will take place from August 19-22 in Chicago, Illinois.

    The United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks, will be the main venue for the DNC.

    Chicago has hosted the Democratic Convention 11 times, most recently in 1996 when the United Center saw President Bill Clinton was nominated for a second time.

    The convention will air live on its website , from the United Center in Chicago between 6:15 p.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern (5:15 p.m. to 10 p.m Central) on Monday, and 7 p.m to 11 p.m. Eastern (6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Central) the other days.
