    2024-08-22

The second half of the WNBA season is in full swing, and the race for the Rooki e of the Year award is heating up with two strong front-runners in Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky's Angel Reese .

Clark has added another record to her list of accolades. After Sunday's win against the Seattle Storm, she broke the WNBA single-season rookie mark for assists with 232, surpassing Ticha Penicheiro's record of 224 set in 1998. Clark is averaging 17.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game. Her outstanding performance has helped Indiana achieve a 13-15 record, and they currently hold the seventh position in the WNBA standings.

The other strong contender is Reese, who has made WNBA history herself by becoming the fastest player in the league to reach 20 double-doubles in a season. She achieved this after recording 19 points and 20 rebounds in the Sky's most recent loss to the Phoenix Mercury. Reese is averaging 13.6 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game this season.
