    Rep. Katherine Clark highlights need for affordable childcare: Watch her DNC speech

    Massachusetts Rep. Katherine Clark was among the first guests to speak on Thursday at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

    Before becoming a representative, Clark worked "as general counsel of the Massachusetts Office of Child Care Services, prosecutor for the Colorado Attorney General's Office and federal court clerk for the Honorable Alfred A. Arraj," according to Ballotpedia .

    In her speech at the Democratic National Convention, Clark highlighted the need for affordable childcare and other resources for working families and warned of the dangers that Project 2025 poses for families who are struggling to pay their bills.

    The Democratic National Committee convention is in Chicago from Monday, Aug. 19 to Thursday, Aug. 22. Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to formally accept the party's nomination for the 2024 election on the final day of the convention.

    Who is Rep. Katherine Clark?

    • Who is she? Rep. Katherine Clark (D-MA) represents Massachusetts' 5th Congressional District.
    • What role does she play? As the Democratic Whip, Clark is the "second woman to ever serve at the top of House leadership, and the highest-ever ranking woman from Massachusetts," her website says. Democratic Whips are typically defined as the person who is "mainly responsible for counting heads and rounding up party members for votes and quorum calls, and they occasionally stand in for the majority or minority leaders in their absence," according to the U.S. Senate .

    When and where is the DNC?

    The Democratic National Convention will take place from August 19-22 in Chicago, Illinois.

    The United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks, will be the main venue for the DNC.

    Chicago has hosted the Democratic Convention 11 times, most recently in 1996 when the United Center saw President Bill Clinton nominated for a second time.

    How to watch and stream the 2024 DNC

    The convention will air live on its website from the United Center in Chicago between 6:15 p.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern (5:15 p.m. to 10 p.m. Central) on Monday, and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern (6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Central) the other days.

    USA TODAY will provide livestream coverage on YouTube each night of the DNC, Monday through Thursday.

    The DNC announced nightly themes for the convention. The title of the convention is "For the People, For Our Future."
