U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), a U.S. Senate candidate, took the stage at the 2024 Democratic National Convention , emphasizing the importance of national security and global leadership in the upcoming election. Drawing on her experience as a former CIA officer and Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense, Slotkin warned voters of the stakes in November.
"Trump wants to take us backwards," Slotkin said. "Our vision is based on our values—the values that took us to the shores of Normandy and helped us win the Cold War."
Slotkin urged Democrats to "reclaim their patriotism", rejecting those who "wrap themselves in a flag but spit in the face of the freedoms it represents."
The Democratic National Committee convention is in Chicago through Thursday and Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday is scheduled to formally accept the party's nomination for the 2024 Election.

Who is she: Elissa Slotkin represents Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, which is slightly north and west of Detroit, encompassing Lansing, Michigan. She was first elected in 2018 and is currently running for Michigan’s open Senate seat, facing Republican nominee Mike Rogers, a former congressman.
What role she plays: With a national security background and moderate politics, Slotkin can appeal to more conservative Democrats and undecided voters.

The convention will air live on its website , from the United Center in Chicago between 6:15 p.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern (5:15 p.m. to 10 p.m Central) on Monday, and 7 p.m to 11 p.m. Eastern (6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Central) the other days.
