CHICAGO - Actor Wendell Pierce, known for his roles on The Wire and Suits, told USA TODAY that Vice President Kamala Harris is offering voters something different this election: the ability to propose solutions.

"A lot of new voters are going to give Kamala Harris a look," Pierce said in an interview at the Democratic National Convention. He believes the difference comes down to policy solutions versus the "cult of personality" that former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party offer.

"But [Harris' campaign] is really for working people. People want to feel better about their lives. People want to be able to know that someone is going to be in the office and going to help them exercise their right of self-determination."Throughout the convention, Harris, along with her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz , ensured that voters walked away with a better sense of the Democrat's policies , especially in the face of a nominee who only joined the race a month ago. Harris paid special attention to her policies on immigration and the economy – two issues the Republican Party continues to hammer her on.

Pierce praised Harris' ability to bring voters together on policy solutions, saying it was similar to his rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Katrina struck his neighborhood in 2005.

"When I was rebuilding my neighborhood in New Orleans post-Katrina, the one thing I always told my neighbors - I was president of the neighborhood association - I said, 'You can come and complain, but the price of complaining is bring a solution to the table.' "That's what it feels like here, that there's a clarion call for people to come together and bring some solutions to the table," Pierce said.

Pierce will star as the formidable editor-in-chief Perry White of The Daily Planet newspaper in James Gunn's much-anticipated Superman movie, which is expected to be released in July 2025.
