A Swiss exchange student and her host family built a lifelong friendship during her 10-month stay in the U.S.

Renee and Matt Hattaway invited Ysaline to stay in their Chicagoland home to help their daughter learn more about the world through students from overseas.

Via their local high school, the Hattaways connected with Reflections International and soon welcomed Ysaline and German student, Mia.

“The two girls were simply amazing,” says Renee. “We truly consider them our bonus kids.”

Ysaline quickly became a part of the Hattaway family, and when it was time to say goodbye, emotions ran high.

Renee captured the tearful moment Ysaline said goodbye to her host grandparents.
