Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 1 game

    By Jordan Mendoza, USA TODAY,

The Jim Harbaugh era in Los Angeles will kick off with a visit from the Las Vegas Raiders (0-0).

It was a year to forget for the Los Angeles Chargers (0-0) last season; Justin Herbert dealt with injuries and the team finished last in the AFC West. Now comes Harbaugh, fresh off a national championship at Michigan , to reignite the Chargers into a crowded division.

Antonio Piece sec ured the job in Las Vegas after an impressive debut. Now he needs to prove he is the right man to lead the Raiders back to success as they attempt the navigate a rather dubious quarterback situation . It'll definitely sound like a Raiders home game inside SoFi Stadium; can the "road" team give it's diehard fans a win?

Lorenzo Reyes: Chargers 26, Raiders 20

Los Angeles will be interesting under Jim Harbaugh, who is making his return to the NFL. I expect his teams to eventually be strong on both lines, but it may take some time to get there. Still, the Chargers have far more talent, and I trust that defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, who worked closely under Harbaugh at the University of Michigan, will find ways to disrupt Gardner Minshew.

Tyler Dragon: Chargers 26, Raiders 21

It’s hard to imagine Jim Harbaugh losing his Chargers head coaching debut to a pesky but inferior Raiders team with journeyman quarterback Gardner Minshew. There will be a lot of Raiders fans at SoFi Stadium (Raiders are still the most popular team in LA even since their departure from the city in 1994), but the Chargers will start the Harbaugh era 1-0. Khalil Mack had six sacks in one game versus his former team last year.

Safid Deen: Chargers 17, Raiders 13

As much as this is a home game for the Chargers, the Raiders fans in Los Angeles will surely make their presence felt in this one. The new-look Chargers might not be as cohesive under coach Jim Harbaugh as the Raiders are under Antonio Pierce. But the Chargers have the best player on the field – quarterback Justin Herbert – who should make all the difference.

Richard Morin: Chargers 27, Raiders 21

The spread is tighter than some might've thought, and the over/under is relatively low given the vast array of weapons at Justin Herbert's disposal. Reasons to perhaps stay away from this one?

Jordan Mendoza: Chargers 18, Raiders 13

Given Jim Harbaugh's track record, Los Angeles should make a big jump toward success in his first season back in the NFL. Justin Herbert should be refreshed and despite not having some key weapons, the offense should be fine. The Raiders still look very suspect and Davante Adams will show his frustrations.
