WASHINGTON - A new poll released Wednesday shows half of Gen Z voters surveyed would support Vice President Kamala Harris if the election were held today.

The NBC News Stay Tuned Gen Z poll, powered by SurveyMonkey, found that 50% of registered voters ages 18-29 would vote for Harris, while 34% would vote for Trump. Six percent said they would vote for someone else and 10% said they wouldn’t vote.

The poll also found that 31% of Gen Z registered voters have a poor opinion of Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, while 15% have an excellent view of him. Eighteen percent have a good opinion of him, 16% have a not so good opinion of him and 20% have no opinion.

By contrast, 31% of Gen Z registered voters have an excellent opinion of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Harris’ running mate, while only 14% have a poor opinion of him. Twenty-five percent have a good opinion of him, 11% have a not so good opinion of him and 19% have no opinion.

The poll, conducted between Aug. 24 and Aug. 30 among 2,617 registered voters, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

In 2020, 60% of voters ages 18-29 voted for President Joe Biden, while 36% of that group voted for Trump, according to a CNN exit poll. In 2016, 55% of voters ages 18-29 voted for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton while 36% voted for Trump, according to a CNN exit poll.
