Former President Donald Trump is known for his real estate empire in New York City, his lavish Mar-a-Lago estate in southern Florida, and his globally recognized branded properties - but where was he born and raised?

    Where is Donald Trump from?

Trump was born on June 14, 1946, at Jamaica Hospital in Queens, New York, to real estate developer Fredrick Trump, Sr., and Scottish immigrant Mary Anne MacLeod Trump. They raised their five children, Maryanne, Elizabeth, Fred Jr., Donald, and Robert , in a five-bedroom, Tudor-style home in the Jamaica Estates section of Queens, a borough of New York City.

The second youngest son had a history of trouble at school and was sent by his father to the New York Military Academy in Cornwall, New York, about 60 miles north of NYC, at the age of 13, according to the Washington Post. After graduation, he attended Fordham University in the Bronx for two years and then transferred to the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1968.

Trump entered the business world in 1971, taking over his father's real estate company and renaming it the Trump Organization to focus on skyscrapers, hotels, casinos and golf courses. His book Art of the Deal was published in 1987, and his rise to national prominence was partly due to his role on the reality television show The Celebrity Apprentice , which ran from 2004 to 2015.

The businessman-turned-politician moved into the White House after winning the 2016 presidential election but still considered NYC home.

After living for decades in Trump Towers in midtown Manhattan, the native New Yorker filed a "declaration of domicile" on Oct. 4, 2019, moving from the Empire State to the Sunshine State and listing the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, as his primary residence.

"Despite the fact that I pay millions of dollars in city, state and local taxes each year, I have been treated very badly by the political leaders of both the city and state," Trump posted on social media on Oct. 31, 2019. "In the end, it will be best for all concerned."

Soon after, then-New York Governor Andrew Cuomo , another politician from Queens, issued a farewell note of sorts on Twitter: "It's not like @realDonaldTrump paid taxes here anyway; he's all yours, Florida."
