Utah quarterback Cam Rising exited Saturday's game vs. Baylor with a hand injury.

Over the past several seasons, though, Rising has battled injuries, a trend that has now continued just two games into this season after he reportedly injured his hand being tackled out of bounds vs. the Bears .

On a first-and-10 from the Baylor 36-yard line with about two minutes remaining in the second quarter, Rising was flushed out of the pocket and chased by a pair of Baylor defenders. He threw the ball away, but was pushed by Baylor defensive lineman Treven Ma'ae before going out of bounds and crashing into coolers and the table on which they were placed on the Bears’ sideline.

As he tried to brace his fall, he injured his hand, which he was shown immediately grabbing in pain.

Here's what to know of Rising's injury:

    Cam Rising injury update

Rising left the Utes ’ game against Baylor on Saturday in the second quarter with what was confirmed to be a hand injury.

Fox sideline reporter Allison Williams reported Utah coach Kyle Whittingham told her that Rising was “questionable to return” for Saturday’s game, which the Utes led 23-3 at halftime.

“You guys felt it," Williams said on the Fox broadcast. "There was a palpable difference in this stadium when Cam got hurt. Coach Whittingham acknowledged that. But he said we have to rally around who’s in there and continue to work. Just because he’s gone, we cannot fold the tent.”

Rising had not come back out on the field for the start of the second half and Williams noted that she saw blood on Rising’s towel that was draped over his right throwing hand. He was later shown on the Utah sideline out of his pads and uniform, signaling that he was done for the day.

A seventh-year senior, Rising missed all of last season while recovering from a knee injury that he suffered in a Rose Bowl loss to Penn State in January 2023.

Fox cameras later showed Rising in street clothes on the sideline with his right ring and middle fingers taped. His day against Baylor is done, though he seemed to be in good spirits.

    Utah QB depth chart

Rising was replaced in the game by true freshman Isaac Wilson, the younger brother of Denver Broncos quarterback Zach Wilson.

In his first career college game, Wilson relieved Rising late in a 49-0 blowout of Southern Utah last Thursday and completed 7 of 11 passes for 74 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Coming out of high school, Wilson was a four-star recruit and the No. 18 quarterback nationally in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports' Composite rankings .

Wilson was the only quarterback listed behind Rising on Utah's depth chart heading into the Baylor matchup. The Utes have three other quarterbacks on their roster: sophomore Brandon Rose, senior Sam Huard and senior Luke Bottari.
