The winners of the Creative Arts Emmys were announced on Saturday and Sunday, and Bassett snagged the award for outstanding narrator for the National Geographic documentary series "Queens."
"I'm just a girl who wanted to act, and my mentors were way out ahead of me, and I just looked at them and had inspiration and hope," she told reporters, according to a video she shared on Instagram. "I just put my focus and my energy and my love to try to make it happen in my life. So each and every day, I try to remember that first love."
Bassett also shared a photo of herself with her Emmy on Instagram and wrote, "It feels really good to hold this in my hands."
Curtis won outstanding guest actress in a comedy series Sunday for her performance as Carmy's mother, Donna Berzatto, in a Christmas-themed Season 2 episode of FX's "The Bear." This was also the first Emmy win of her career. The "Halloween" star was previously awarded the best supporting actress Oscar in 2023 for "Everything Everywhere All at Once" in a category that also included Bassett.
Curtis' co-star, Jon Bernthal, became a first-time winner as well by taking outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for "The Bear," in which he played Mikey, Carmy's dead brother, in flashbacks.
Outstanding guest actress in a drama series went to Michaela Coel for Amazon's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," while outstanding guest actor in a drama series went to Néstor Carbonell for FX's "Shōgun."
The Creative Arts Emmys honor "exceptional artistic and technical achievements in television," and they're handed out prior to the televised Primetime Emmys . This year's ceremony took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles over two nights on Saturday and Sunday.
"Shōgun" won the most Creative Arts Emmys of any series overall with 14, and "The Bear" wasn't far behind with seven, suggesting both series could be set for big wins at the main Primetime Emmys ceremony on Sunday.
Other Creative Arts Emmys highlights include Pat Sajak winning outstanding game show host for "Wheel of Fortune," three months after departing the series . He previously won the best game-show host Daytime Emmy in 1998, 1997 and 1993.
Additionally, " Jeopardy !," won outstanding game show, and Alan Cumming was awarded outstanding host for a reality or reality competition program for " The Traitors ." "Shōgun," "The Bear," "Baby Reindeer" and "Love on the Spectrum" all received awards for outstanding casting in their genres.
Outstanding animated program went to "Blue Eye Samurai," while " Shark Tank " won outstanding structured reality program, and " Welcome to Wrexham " won outstanding unstructured reality program.
This year's Creative Arts Emmys also resulted in a pair of new EGOT winners, as songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul won outstanding original music and lyrics for "Only Murders in the Building." This gave the duo the "E" in their "EGOT." They previously won Grammys for "Dear Evan Hansen" and "The Greatest Showman," an Oscar for "La La Land," and Tonys for "Dear Evan Hansen" and "A Strange Loop."
