Former President Donald Trump , the Republican presidential nominee, is safe after gunshots were fired near Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach. This would be the second time in two months that there has been an attempted assassination against Trump. Read more.

Suspect is in custody

Following the apparent assassination attempt on Trump , the man authorities have in custody is Ryan Wesley Routh, according to several media outlets, citing multiple unidentified law enforcement sources.

Biden, Harris briefed on attempt

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris , the Democratic presidential nominee, have both been briefed on the “security incident.” “They are relieved to know that he is safe,” the White House said in a statement.

• Harris released a statement about the incident, saying she is glad Trump is safe. “Violence has no place in America,” Harris wrote X .

When was Trump first attacked?

Trump survived an assassination attempt in July after a lone gunman opened gunfire at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was shot in the ear. One person, Trump supporter Corey Comperatore , 50, was killed during the assassination attempt. Read more .
