Wife of Rep. Mark Green , R-Tenn., has accused him of having an affair, multiple outlets reported.
Green, chair of the Committee on Homeland Security , had planned to retire earlier this year after taking office in 2019, but changed his mind weeks later. Court records show Green filed for divorce from his wife Camilla Green at the end of August.
The Nashville Banner first reported Camilla's accusations, which surfaced in a message sent to members of Congress. She said he was having an affair with a 32-year-old woman he met after being corrupted in Washington.
“He fell head over heels in love with her to the extent he wanted to marry her and start a new family,” she wrote, as reported by Politico. “Satan has rewritten our marriage in his mind."
Mark's reelection campaign did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment but told the Banner and Politico: “This is a difficult time for my family and me, and we are currently going through divorce proceedings. As this is a deeply private matter, I ask for privacy....I will continue to serve this district with all I’ve got, as I have the last five and a half years.”

Rep's wife misidentifies mistress as journalist, prompting legal threat
Camilla's group text message sent on Sept. 11 mistakenly identified Mark's mistress as a reporter with Axios, prompting a legal threat from the news outlet.
In a letter obtained by USA TODAY, Axios' legal counsel told Camilla she needed to text the group again to "set the record straight" or else the company may "take further actions."
Camilla did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for confirmation, but told Politico, “I want to correct the record, because I misidentified someone in that message. My husband has never had a relationship with a reporter from Axios, and I regret having said that.”
Rep. Mark Green planned to retire, then got pressured by Trump
Rep. Mark Green, who is also a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, announced in mid-February he would not seek re-election.
"Our country–and our Congress–is broken beyond most means of repair," he said in a statement. "I have come to realize our fight is not here within Washington, our fight is with Washington."
Weeks later, he reversed that decision.
“While my s trong desire was to leave Congress at the end of this year, since my announcement, I have received countless calls from constituents, colleagues, and President Trump urging me to reconsider,” Green said in a statement shared in February with The Tennessean, part of the USA TODAY Network.
In 2017, Green withdrew from consideration to be Army secretary under the Trump administration after growing criticism of his previous comments on gays and lesbians, Muslims and other groups.
In the upcoming election, Green is running against former Nashville mayor Democrat Megan Barry for the 7th district, covering Clarksville and part of Nashville.
