To win an election you'll need your name on the ballot, but in Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s case, he is trying to take his name off.

Kennedy faced an intense, costly and time-consuming process to get onto general election ballots across all 50 states and failed to get on some after choosing to run as an independent in October 2023.

Then on Aug. 23 in Phoenix, Arizona, Kennedy chose to end his candidacy and endorse former President Donald Trump in his bid to regain the White House. In his speech, the independent candidate said his name would remain on the ballot and encouraged his supporters to vote for him.

But in battleground states, "where my presence would be a spoiler," Kennedy has been trying to remove his name from those ballots. For the past couple of weeks, he has been battling in the courts trying to get his name off of the ballot.

    Here's where Kennedy stands.

Kennedy failed to qualify in both New York and Georgia, with both states citing questions over his reported New York residency and deeming him ineligible to appear in their ballots.

Out of the eight battleground states in this election, Kennedy will appear in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

A Wisconsin judge ruled on Monday that the former candidate will appear on its ballot, and the Michigan Supreme Court ruled the same on Sept. 9.

Therefore, Kennedy will appear on 33 different state ballots including:

    • Alabama
    • Alaska
    • Arkansas
    • California

The former independent candidate has had success taking his name off of a majority of swing state ballots, apart from Georgia, where he never was able to be on it in the first place.

In the last couple of weeks, North Carolina and Arizona removed him from the ballot. Additionally, his name was taken off the swing states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Nevada.
