Yet, even as he runs for the presidency, Trumps seems to be just as focused on making money and promoting his personal brand as he is in garnering votes.
On Saturday, via his official X account , the former president announced that he would sell official Trump coins. "The President Donald J. Trump First Edition Silver Medallion" is available for purchase Wednesday and sells for $100 per coin .
In a video statement, Trump described the launch of the "beautiful limited edition coin" as a symbol of American greatness, commemorating "our fight for freedom, prosperity." The coin features an image of Trump on the front and his signature on the back. "Together we will make history in America," Trump said.
Incredibly, he doesn't even mention in the video his reelection campaign, voting or the election.
Have we entered "The Twilight Zone"? I wish I could laugh this off. It's so absurd. I'm all for Randian greed , but this is a grotesque example of capitalism and a waste of precious time for a candidate running for president.
Think about it: Trump has made coins of himself before even being elected a second time and before he's even really been commemorated in history for being elected the first time. The Republican in me cannot help but cringe: Ronald Reagan would never.
It's just so egotistical. And embarrassing.
Trump has misplaced priorities
Has Trump seen the world now? Millions of Americans are struggling to buy groceries and pay the rent; the Middle East teeters on the verge of a regional war.
And while Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris' campaign runs on joy and flip-flops , Trump is online shilling $100 silver coins. Talk about weird priorities.
The polls indicate that this race is very close about six weeks before Election Day. But Trump should be ahead because Harris is weak on the two biggest issues that voters say they care most about: the economy and immigration.
Still, Trump may well lose this election because he lacks discipline and focus. The fact that Trump chose now to launch a website selling coins proves it.

Trump isn't taking his responsibilities seriously
The weeks running up to the election are not a preview to a gameshow and Trump is not its host. Democracy is not a product for sale on QVC. Nov. 5 is not the date of a talk show with a couple of dueling guests.
This is America, damn it. It remains the most compelling experiment of self-government, with nearly limitless potential for people to thrive and to live and work as they please.
Why can't Trump take seriously the privilege and responsibility of running to lead America?
If Trump loses this election, it will not be because Harris was a better candidate. It will be because he lacked the dedication and focus that a presidential campaign requires.
