Over 36 million Americans under freeze warnings Wednesday morning: See weather watches, radar

Millions in the Midwest and eastern U.S. were under freeze warnings early Wednesday morning as cold temperatures move in, according to the National Weather Service .

Almost 37 million people from Kansas to as far east as New England were facing subfreezing temperatures Wednesday morning.

Many of the freeze warnings were set to expire Wednesday morning as temperatures rise.

Despite the freeze warning, cities like Chicago and Kansas City, Missouri could see a temperatures in the 50s and 60s on Wednesday, respectively, according to AccuWeather.

The NWS warned that the freezing temperatures could kill crops and other outdoor plants and damage any outdoor plumbing that is unprotected.

What is a freeze warning?

The NWS issues freeze warnings when temperatures are forecast to drop below 32 degrees within the next 24 hours. It issues a hard freeze warning when temperatures are forecasted to drop below 28 degrees.
