Colorado football is well on its way to taking another step closer to bowl eligibility, with a 21-point halftime lead against Arizona.

Coach Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes will have to finish the job without its best player, though. Two-way superstar Travis Hunter will miss the remainder of Colorado’s game against the Wildcats Saturday in Tucson, Arizona.

Here’s what you need to know about Hunter’s injury and his playing status:

After playing much of the first half for Colorado, Hunter will sit for the game’s final 30 minutes.

The move was described as a preventative measure, with Fox sideline reporter Allison Williams noting on the broadcast that Hunter had a “slight reaggravation” of the shoulder injury he suffered the previous week in a 31-28 loss to Kansas State that kept him out the majority of that contest.

“It’s more just to be cautious with him with this game, the way it is,” Williams reported. “They want to be safe, so his day is done.”

The Buffaloes led Arizona 28-7 at the half. Hunter played 41 snaps on offense and 13 on defense for Colorado in the first half, according to the Fox broadcast. Hunter had two catches for 17 yards on offense and one tackle on defense.

Hunter’s absence is more likely to impact him than his team, which is a second-half collapse away from improving to 5-2 on the season.

Given his production and his rare ability to excel on both sides of the ball, Hunter is among the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy. His lack of snaps the past two weeks, however, will likely put him further behind Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who has 1,248 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in his team’s first six games this season.
