When asked about the performance of the New Orleans Saints offense versus the Arizona Cardinals, Dennis Allen was straight forward.

“I think it looked a first preseason game with a bunch of new pieces,” Allen said.

It was hard to walk away from Saturday’s action and feel good about the first-team offense. Derek Carr and the starting unit stayed in the game for two possessions. The end result was 9 plays and 18 yards.

Alvin Kamara’s run on the first play started the game on a high note. Allen added that, “The first play of the game looked like what I want it to look like.” The offensive line got good push, and Alvin Kamara did a good job finding and hitting the hole. That is the vision for the offense. Unfortunately for Allen and the Saints, it didn’t look like that the whole time.

The offensive line didn’t hold up. Carr didn’t look comfortable.

Allen didn’t feel they executed the way they wanted to every time but understands that’s the Saints’ first time out. New Orleans has a lot of change, offensively. A better starting point was hoped for, but it’s supposed to improve from here. It has to improve from here.
