Nebraska football defensive coordinator Tony White had high praise for safety DeShon Singleton following practice on Tuesday.

Singleton tallied 19 tackles and a pass deflection before he suffered a season-ending injury against Michigan in September. His 2023 season included a seven-tackle effort against Louisiana Tech on September 23. He nicely assumed his role on the defense under first-year defensive coordinator Tony White.

Now, he will be a leader in a safety position with much depth and experience. The senior from Louisiana will be part of a defense that ranked 11 th overall in 2023.

White has liked what he’s seen from Singleton in camp so far.

“… I think DeShon Singleton , he’s a guy you can see, you know we lost him last year early, and it was making sure his knee was okay and taking a long process there and all of a sudden now you see him getting back in the groove and making plays and flying around. He’s playing at a high level right now…”

Singleton’s impact is important for a unit looking to continue improving. The defense has a unique mix of new faces and returners, and the Huskers look to have their first winning season since 2016.
