Former Boston Celtic Chris Herren beat the odds to make the NBA as a player, but he became entangled in drug use while in the college ranks. His story was famously documented in the film “Unguarded.” But Herren found his way to sobriety — now going on 14 years — beating the odds yet again.

To chat about his time playing for the Celtics and the Denver Nuggets , his struggles with substance abuse and path to overcoming it and many other stories of his basketball journey, Herren recently sat down to talk to the hosts of the Heavy “Celtics Collective” podcast.

To hear what the onetime Boston player has to say about the perils of fame and fortune as an NBA player surrounded by glitz and glamor, take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what he had to say on the pod.
