Nebraska football defensive lineman Princewill Umamielen made an impact in his freshman season last year. He played in 11 games and started one, tallying 22 tackles and a sack. Now, he is looking to take on a bigger role, and the program is challenging him to get even better.

Umamielen is also making strides in the weight room as well. He was 230 pounds last year and is now 245 pounds, per a report from Husker247’s Michael Bruntz. This will allow him to add another element to his game. He had already established himself as a reliable pass-rusher. Now, he is more prepared to stop the run in a conference that features run-happy teams like Oregon and Ohio State.

Umamielen spoke to Bruntz about what the added work in the weight room would do to his game.

“I would just say in the run, I’m able to play the run much better. Last year, me being how small I was it was very difficult.”

Umamielen was a dynamic playmaker last season for the Nebraska football defense. The former four-star recruit had short flashes of what he could do throughout the course of the year. Now, it’s going to be about him putting it all together. It sounds like he is taking steps in the right direction to do so.
