NFL analyst has ugly win-loss record prediction for Giants

The New York Giants will enter the 2024 regular season low on expectations. They’re coming off a disastrous and injury-riddled 2023 campaign that saw the team regress in just about every area, while belief in quarterback Daniel Jones is at an all-time low.

Their over/under win total has been set at 6.5 and even that’s too high, says Will Brinson of CBS Sports.

In a recent prediction piece, Brinson has the Giants closing out the upcoming season with a record of 6-11, identical to last year.

Man it is hard to be bearish on this team when you watch Malik Nabers training camp highlights. The first-round pick has been a non-stop highlight reel right up until he suffered a mild ankle sprain recently. Everything really comes down to Daniel Jones and the offensive line. If the protection holds up, maybe we get a healthy 2022 version of Danny Dimes and this team looks much better on offense. The departure of Saquon Barkley might be a good thing, because it should allow the offense to run a little more fluidly without trying to focus on one person. The addition of Brian Burns alongside Dexter Lawrence and Kayvon Thibodeaux could make for a really nasty pass rush, one that could even make up for any shortcomings in the secondary.

Things did not get off to a good start for Jones this past Saturday as he tossed two interceptions and nearly a third in his return to action after overcoming a torn ACL.

Although Jones settled down and made some impressive high-level throws in the second quarter, it wasn’t enough to eliminate the fears that were established in the first quarter.

Compounding matters, the team is dealing with a multitude of injuries at several key positions, including tight end, linebacker, and cornerback, where they’re already inexperienced and lacking depth.

If the Giants were somehow able to find health for the first time since 2009, there would be justification is taking the over on 6.5 wins. However, until Jones can find consistency and their injury list doesn’t resemble something out of a Chris Jericho promo, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone expecting big things this season.
