With the WNBA back from its Olympic break, the focus has shifted back to Indiana Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark. And a former Notre Dame standout has entered the latest controversy surrounding her.

Clark broke the WNBA rookie assists record during the Fever’s 92-75 victory over the Seattle Storm, dishing out a game-high nine, but that’s not what everyone was talking about afterwards. During the game, Clark decided to pump up the home crowd, and Skylar Diggins-Smith didn’t take that very well:

It’s unfortunate that Diggins-Smith has joined the list of players who have made Clark’s rookie season tougher than it needs to be. Hopefully, she can have better judgment in such situations moving forward, or she’ll continue to be the target of some people’s wrath.

Diggins-Smith led the Storm with five assists and scored 15 points in the losing effort. She was second on the team in scoring to fellow Irish legend Jewell Loyd, who had 26 points.
