Giants see slight bump in latest ESPN power rankings

Following the 2024 NFL draft, ESPN released an updated version of their power rankings and had the New York Giants nestled in near the bottom at No. 28 overall.

Four months later, Big Blue’s stock has improved. Slightly.

On Monday, the ESPN staff released their revised power rankings, complete with a look at the executives, coaches, and players who will enter the regular season on the hot seat.

For the Giants, quarterback Daniel Jones is unsurprisingly listed as being on the “hot seat.” More notable, however, is that New York actually climbed two spots in the rankings to No. 26 overall.

    Post-draft ranking: 28

Who’s on the hot seat: QB Daniel Jones

The Giants negotiated Jones’ contract last offseason with the ability to reasonably get out after two years. Well, so far, Jones hurt his neck, tore his ACL, and produced two touchdown passes and six interceptions in six games for $46 million. The team has made no secret about him needing to prove he’s the conductor, not just a passenger, after having looked for his replacement in the draft.

The Jones talk is redundant, so there’s really no need to dive in on that. He needs to play well in 2024 or he’ll be gone in 2025. It’s that simple and not worth rehashing any further.

Unfortunately, because the piece focused solely on Jones, there was no explanation provided as to why the Giants climbed two spots over the past four months. But if we were to guess, it probably has something to do with rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers.
