Injury update to Seahawks RT Abe Lucas

Easily the biggest question mark for the Seattle Seahawks offense is going to be the health of their offensive line. For as long as any of us can remember, the Seahawks offensive line has always been a weakness for this team, and last year was no exception. Right from the get-go in Week 1 last season, thanks to injuries to Abe Lucas and Charles Cross, Seattle’s front five was a patchwork of different rotations.

The mess up front last year is what helped prompt the Seahawks to draft UConn’s Christian Haynes – considered the top guard prospect – and sign center Connor Williams. As of right now, it looks like Seattle’s issues up front are still going to be a considerable concern.

Earlier this offseason, right tackle Abe Lucas underwent knee surgery. Unfortunately, this recovery is taking much longer than any of us would have hoped. Head coach Mike Macdonald gave an update for the health of his starting right tackle, and it was not exactly an optimistic one.

When healthy, Lucas has been an absolute anchor on the offensive line. However, when is the operative word here. Last season, the Seahawks were forced to roll out 41-year-old Jason Peters to play tackle for them. Fortunately, this likely won’t be the go-to option this season, as they did draft tackle Sataoa Laumea from Utah – a four-year starter with the Utes.
