Packers sign former UFL defensive lineman Keonte Schad

The Green Bay Packers signed former UFL defensive lineman Keonte Schad ahead of Thursday’s joint practice with the Baltimore Ravens.

Schad, who went undrafted out of Oregon State in 2022, is a native of Madison, WI. He is 25 years old. The UFL listed him at 6-2 and 284 pounds.

While with the New Orleans Breakers in 2023, Schad produced 7.5 sacks, the second most in the USFL. He made 10 starts for the Houston Roughnecks of the UFL in 2024.

According to Pro Football Focus, Schad played 380 snaps this past season. He produced 15 pressures, six stops and one forced fumble. In 2023, Schad created 30 pressures and 16 defensive stops.

The Packers needed depth along the defensive front after Spencer Waege suffered a concussion and is out of practice.

Schad, a Madison East graduate, started his collegiate career at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa. He transferred to Minnesota, where he spent two seasons, and then transferred to Oregon State for his senior season in 2021.

The Packers worked out Schad on Tuesday. The team created a roster spot by releasing Kenneth Odumegwu and designating kicker Alex Hale as the team’s new International Player Pathway player.

Schad had just been signed by the Michigan Panthers. His contract was terminated so he could sign with the Packers.

Schad will wear No. 98.
