Browns trade former LSU kicker Cade York to Commanders

Former LSU kicker Cade York is joining forces with Jayden Daniels in Washington.

On Friday, the Cleveland Browns traded the former fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft to the Commanders in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick. The news of the trade was first reported by Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

A superstar kicker at LSU, York was a First Team All-SEC selection and Second Team All-American in 2020. He was seen as the top kicker in the draft when he was selected early on Day 3 by Cleveland.

However, things didn’t exactly work out. York was waived after struggling in preseason entering his second season and joined the Tennessee Titans practice squad. He was signed to the Giants active roster but was waived three weeks later and added to the practice squad before finishing the season on injured reserve.

The Browns brought him back on a deal in March, but his time with Cleveland ended once again during the preseason. Now, he’s likely to start for Washington as the only placekicker on the roster.

York is 24 of 32 on field goals in his NFL career with a long of 58 yards. He’s 35 of 37 on extra points.
