Can Texas A&M leave the red zone woes in the past under Collin Klein?

It’s no secret that expectations were high after Texas A&M’s 2020 season where they went 9-1 and won the Orange Bowl. However, it turned out to be false gold with the Aggies’ offense spiraling into a Jeckell and Hyde identity.

One of the biggest issues was scoring touchdowns when making it to the red zone . An Aggie fan pointed out that during the Jimbo Fisher era, the offense was only ranked in the top 70 in red zone TD efficiency once, and that was in that 2020 season.

Meanwhile, last season, new A&M OC Collin Klein led his Kansas State Wildcats to a touchdown rate 78.5% touchdown rate which was good enough for second in the nation.

On top of that, Duke finished higher than A&M in 2022 and 2023 landing inside the top 70 both years. Granted, neither team played in the SEC, but it’s still a good metric overall for how efficient the team can be under the new staff. Not only will all eyes be on red zone touchdowns, but how the offense runs as a whole. If the Aggies can show a marked improvement on that side of the ball, I believe recruiting will shoot through the roof in the following classes

For now, we’ll have to wait and see if all of the praise we’ve heard over the past few months will translate to the field.
