Dabo Swinney understands the significance of each game, given how few opportunities there are in a season. That’s why the upcoming matchup against Georgia holds extra importance.

“First off, it’s just exciting to get out there and play,” Swinney shared. “With football, you don’t get a lot of games each year, so every one counts. And this first one is special.”

Set to take place on August 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Clemson’s opener isn’t just any game. Facing the No. 1 team in the nation, Georgia, at a neutral site adds a layer of excitement for Swinney and his squad.

“Playing in a kickoff classic at a venue like Mercedes-Benz and going up against the top team in the country, that definitely brings some added energy,” Swinney said.

This game marks the latest chapter in the long-standing rivalry between Clemson and Georgia, a series with roots that go back over a century. The anticipation has been so high that tickets sold out quickly, signaling just how big this game is for fans.

“College football fans are going to be tuned in, no doubt about it,” Swinney observed. “When you have two teams with our history and success, it’s going to draw a lot of attention.”

As the Tigers prepare to face Georgia, they’re looking to reverse their fortunes from the last meeting in 2021. The game will be broadcast live on ABC at 12 p.m.

“It’s a huge way to start the season,” Swinney remarked. “The team that comes out on top will definitely get a big boost moving forward.”
