The Eagles and 31 other NFL teams are racing to trim their rosters down to the 53-man limit ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, and Philadelphia’s first cut is reserve lineman Max Scharping.

Aaron Wilson is reporting that Scharping will be released on Monday.

Scharping was signed this spring after having 33 career starts and was expected to bring more versatility and depth to the offensive line group.

Scharping, a sixth-year player out of Northern Illinois University, was originally a second-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2019. He spent his first three seasons (2019-21) with Houston before being acquired by Cincinnati on waivers before the ’22 season. Scharping played in 14 regular-season games for the Bengals and then started each of the team’s three 2022-2023 postseason contests at right guard.
