Veteran pass rusher Carl Lawson signed with the Cowboys on Aug. 19, seen then as an experienced replacement for the injured Sam Williams along the Dallas defensive line.

Lawson’s tenure in the silver and blue lasted just eight days. The 29-year-old with 27 career sacks is being released Tuesday, per a report from ESPN’s Todd Archer.

As Archer points out, the 2017 fourth-round draft pick who spent time with the Bengals and Jets could still return to the Cowboys practice squad, as his accrued time in the league allows him to skip the waiver wire and do a deal with any team that wants him.

The Cowboys’ D-line is bookended most notably by Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence. Chauncey Golston, Tyrus Wheat, and highly-touted rookie second-round draft pick Marshawn Kneeland are also in the rotation. Al-Quadin Muhammad was added this offseason, but it should be pointed out that he’ll be required to miss the season opener due to a previous violation of the league’s PED policy.

The Cowboys were scheduled to meet with free agent pass rusher Tyus Bowser on Tuesday; the Houston product spent seven years in Baltimore but hasn’t been healthy enough to play since the 2022 postseason.

The Cowboys must have their roster trimmed to 53 players by the end of the day.
